Cycling hazardous to your health

Ever since our beloved team member has taken up cycling, he's spent more time in the hospital then out. His latest adventure is due to an addiction to Slurpees which has gotten so strong he actually escaped from the hospital and headed to 7-11. Hope your better soon Charlie.

Hot Hot Hot!

We all made the big climb today, some faster than others. The star was Albert, no stops and first one up. The downhill and slurpee at the end made it all worth while. Special thanks to Julie for the cold drinks, snacks and especially the cold wet towels thank you, thank you, thank you. The others were already down the mountain when the group photo was taken. We took our time so we could enjoy every minute of it.

Okay, the big day is coming up! This Saturday we ride Palomar Mountain. You've all gotten Emails from Richard with important details. We want everyone on the team to come plus any other you can drag along. John the "HAMMER" Rader is the odds on favorite to lead us up the mountain. Hopefully Albert will be going who's just coming off a gut wrenching ride up Mt. Washington and appears to be in top form. Dean has been in hiding and may come out just for this. Richard is providing a sag wagon with drinks and carbo's. Hope to see everyone. Here is directions for the ride and stats.

Don't ride on Sundays

Me and Mary made it in to Santa Fe earlier than expected.  One ticket (86) in a 75.  The fine in New Mexico is only 63 bucks.  It was such a nice day we decided to take an easy 25 mile bike ride.  We rode out old santa fe trail rd, through the pine trees to a certain friends house.  We only made it to the driveway.  Oh and about Sundays, I took my first ever moving crash that drew blood.  I got tangled up in some railroad tracks and before I could do anything I was skidding along the pavement.  To top it off I wasn't wearing a helmet.  Let's see, a bump on my head the size of an egg, road rash on shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, and hand.  IT HURTS.  That's what I get!!!

Route 66

Todays stop was Flagstaff, Arizona on our way to New Mexico.  Cycled out old Hwy 66 and then to Walnut Creek National Monument.  Great ride through the pine trees at 6900 feet elevation. We started our ride almost 2,000 feet higher than Mt. Palomar..

Let's Climb Palomar!

Team

Richard Rice and I have set August 28th and 29th to climb Palomar. Our goal is to beat Levi's time....anyway, we will stay in my fifth wheel overnight at the nursery in Bonsall on the 28th, and leave very early in the morning of the 29th to ride up 76 to the climb. We want to ride home from the mountain, so we will need a chase vehicle to carry our stuff so we don't have to come back to the trailer which also means we will need to be dropped off or car pool to the trailer Friday night. All are invited, my trailer is 40 feet long, there is room for air matresses and cots in gargage section if we run out of beds.

OUCH!!!!

Jon G, John M, Jeff and Charlie were headed South. On manchester we heard a loud noise, looking back to see Charlie sailing through the air. Seeing him writhing in Pain Jeff road back and got the truck while Jon and John continued their 48 mile ride. Charlie went to emergency with a broken collarbone. Other than a little drama a great ride. Oh by the way, those of you who have not been coming Saturday you'll be glad to know John M. got a new pair of shorts today!

a few pics

National ride to work day

In honor of this special day Jon and Jeff took the train to Irvine to meet John M. and ride home from his work.. I told Jeff it was only 50 miles and at that I had to twist his arm. If I would of told him the truth that it was 65 he never would of gone. Dean met us in Carlsbad to pull us home. We had headwind the whole ride and I couldn't draft because of the condition of John M.'s shorts. Just way too much info showing.

Ready to ride

Hey proven winners! It been a rough couple of months for me with tax season and the move. I missed so many weeks, I will be the caboose on the next few rides. If you come my way, Coast Highway at Poinsettia, and need either a power bar, a drink, or a tag along call me and I will meet you. I'm eager to ride again. On a future Saturday I want to take the coast to San Clemente. Any takers?

Todays ride

Nice easy ride to Oceanside pier. 30 miles of perfect cycling weather. We had The Bish, Charlie, Jeff and Jon. Tomorrow's ride 8:00 at Lone Jack to the top of Torrey Pines. So far we have Jon, Jeff and Charlie. Thursday also at 8:00 and Friday 7:30. On Saturday's ride I was in fourth position, bringing up the rear as usual riding through Elfin Forest. I watched a frightening scene unfold before me. A large dog bolted from the side of the road and almost rode through Scott Dyer's spokes, He swerved, the Bish swerved and Charlie was in full lockup doing a sideways drift. No one went down luckily.

Hey Proven Winners Spoke Heads

I will not be doing the Tour de Cure this Saturday. I got really sick after my 10 day open house (Pack Trials) that I need to just get back on the saddle this week. In fact I think I will start today. Since I am not doing the century, I will be going with Nelson to the Pinewood Derby races at QualComm this Saturday. So I will miss you guys again. I'll be riding though. May looks like a great month for me to be back with the gang.

Get off the couch!

Okay, winter is over! Today was perfect cycling weather. Cielo to the harbor and back, 47 glorious miles. Plus it was spring break so the scenery at the beach was all you could ask for. We need to get the Saturday rides going again. Morrison is the only stalwart, only to get stood up most every Saturday. Time to recommit. Especially me.

Rader Riding Early Saturday

Due to Nelson's track meet, I will be riding at 7:00 on Saturday if anyone wants to join me.

I will ride the century ride in the Tour de Cure on April 18th. Let's get a group together. It starts on Manchester at Mira Costa College. They have 70 and 30 mile routes too. You have to get $150 in donations plus a $15.00 entry fee. I'm just going to ask some of my business associates to chip in 10 bucks.

Lake Wolford with a twist

Todays ride was 44 miles with lots of hills. 4600 feet of climbing. I altered the return by going back through Elfin Forest and up the back side of Cielo 18% grade. Tomorrow Morning a few of us are involved with Nathan Dyer's Eagle project so will be riding later.
