Todays ride

Doesn't get much better than this, Lone Jack to Oceanside harbor. 35 scenic miles with only 1274 feet of climbing. I've also been feeling like Dean and am getting slower and slower. I decided to recommit a few days ago. So far so good. Two consecutive days of riding. My goal is to ride Palomar Mtn again hopefully in 30 days and at some point be able to keep up with the rest of you.
Tis the Season or just another mid-life crisis ?
A wise professor once told me, "What a person thinks about when they are all alone reveals a lot about the character of that person." I never did like his class!
I've been daydreaming . . . How fat can I get before my bike's carbon frame will crack or my wheelset explode? You must understand, I love food. I love soda. I love sugary treats! And I have gained 15 pounds since early October. (Thank you, I feel better -- my dirty little secret is now out in the open) You see, I have continued to graze at the same quantities as I did prior to running in the St. George Marathon. The only difference -- I've stopped exercising.
At my age, the formula for weight gain is easy: 1 Eat everything that looks, smells or sounds good, 2. Be a helpful spouse/dad - finish off any leftovers you find on your wife or kids' plates, 3. Wash all of this food down with the soda of you choice and 4. Sit on your butt all day at work and when you get home watch sports all night.
And of course the biggest key to weight gain -- trick yourself about your current condition. Tell yourself happy little lies like: "My pants feel really good when they are this tight" or "My wife finds my fuller figure very sexy" or "I know my junk is down there somewhere" or the best lie, "I'll be able to lose this fat by spring time".
Well, if you are like me -- sound the trumpets, the fat lady is singing and by my calendar, it is now SPRING! So if you can relate to any of this . . . It is time to re-commit! It is time to work off the winter coat! It is time to be the machine!
Hope to see you on Saturdays!
Dean
Maybe our goal should be, "Group photo in June at the beach in a Speedo !?"

Todays ride
My kind of day, 70 degrees and sunny. Started at Cielo and went east hoping to find even warmer weather. Went to the wild animal park, looped back thru N. Escondido and back home on Del Dios. 33 miles and 2722 feet of climbing. Tomorrow in the morning if anybody is interested.

Rader Rides
Can't make it Wed AM, but not because of the cold. I'll be working. I will ride in the afternoon at 2:00. For those that don't like the cold, you're welcome to join me. I'll be at Lone Jack at 2:00.
New Years Day I'll be there at 8:30.....Sat. the 3rd at 8:00
This past Saturday, I missed Dean the Machine and Johnny Yuma. I was bit late, but that worked out because I had to stop at B and L because my chain was binding. I learned that I should NOT hose off my bike to clean it. Soap and water get into the bearings and dry them out. Use a damp rag with Simple Green or a degreaser----never free water, unless you have your very own full time mechanic to take everything apart everytime you hose it off!
After they repacked my rear bearings, it was better than new. It felt so good I rode to Seaport Village, back by Sea World, through La Jolla, up John Morrison hill and home. 70 miles. I did stop for a hot chocolate and scone at Starbucks by the old Naval Training Center....it was cold! Didn't go fast, but went long.
Have a great week.

Riding during the holidays
Gang: I'm riding on the 24th at 1:30 in the afternoon, the 26th at 7:30 AM and Saturday at 8:00 AM. Let's meet at the usual spot the corner of RSF Road and Lone Jack. If it rains, all the bets are off! I'll go to the gym. The week of New Years, I'm riding on New Years day at 8AM, the 2nd at 8AM and the 3rd at 8AM.
This blog was Russ Finday's idea. We need to let him know about it as well as Jonathan Bullen.
